Pronounced crag-an-MORE Meaning The big rock.
Cragganmore was created by John Smith at Ayeon Farm on the Ballindalloch Estate in 1869. Smith had previously managed Macallan, Glenfarclas, Wishaw and Glenlivet, and is thought to have been the illegitimate son of Glenlivet founder George Smith. Cragganmore was designed by the Speyside distillery architect Charles Doig, and in1901 Doig was again called on to modernise the distillery. In 1964 the plants capacity had been doubled with the installation of a new pair of stills. In 1998 it was chosen to be the Speyside representative in the newly formed Classic Malts line up..
